addisonstales.com is where you can find Mr Cornelius Elmore Addison, writer of the highly imaginative Addison's Tales. The old story teller shares his cottage with his cat Penelope, a miserable dog called Tibbins and a variety of other characters he bought from Mack's One Stop Character Shop. These characters are transparent, and only become solid once the old man has written them into a Tale. That's when visitors can click on a character and read a sample chapter from their story.

At the site, you can also hear Vincent the choir mouse sing songs taken from the Addison's Tales series. Each Tale normally has at least one catchy rhyme that a character sings. Now, with the wonders of the internet, readers can hear just what those songs sound like instead of using their imagination like they did in the days of Tolkien. Because the songs are sung by Vincent the choir mouse, who from time to time even appears in an Enlivened Rhyme. That's when he gets to sing on stage in his very own cartoon that you can watch on Youtube.

So if dark, funny, fast moving fairy tales and fables full of awesome characters, catchy tunes, unexpected twists and turns and some great writing is what you're after, then you've come to the right place...

Peekaboo

Way way way
up in heaven where the peekaboo moon
sails high on the waves of a silvery sea,
peeping all around
in her yellowbelly gown
as the mercury clouds are
stretched and fetched
and scattered all around,
moving on and grooving on
away to the sounds
of the sea and the surf and the mountain town,
as the train on the track goes clickity clack,
and the horn hoots loud,
and the horn hoots proud -
everything's a party when the sun goes down!

Whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnn
the peekaboo moon goes
peekaboo peekaboo peekaboo poo,
and the how-ling wolf goes
woowow woowow woowow woo,
and the chuggalong train goes
chuggalugga chuggalugga chuggalugga chug,
and the dancing girl goes
way-a-pyla way-a-pyla,
and all around is fun,
and all around is fun,
and all around the mountainside
they dance as one -
Whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnn
the peekaboo moon goes
peekaboo peekaboo peekaboo poo,
and how-ling wolf goes
woowow woowow woowow woo,
and the chuggalong train goes
chuggalugga chuggalugga chuggalugga chug,
and the dancing girl goes
way-a-pyla way-a-pyla, way-a-pyla-hey!
Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.............

Will the Tamer

"This Halfling boy was discovered by the banks of a river by the sinister Maximilian the Magnificent - the Ringmaster of the mysterious travelling Circus Hypnotosa. The Halfling is a creature from the Kingdom of the Fey, and, as such, wields a strange magic that can ensnare the minds of animals or even the heart of a simple shepherd girl. To read a chapter from this very dark fairy tale, one Mr Addison heartily recommends for girls aged 12 to 14 (but not boys because it's all about love and being a girl and things like that) then click on the link below."

The Adder

"Somewhere within the full Tale of Penelope, our heroine encounters Mr Addison's very first purchase - the mysterious Adder. Also known as The Ageless One, The Wanderer or The Reader of Runes, the ancient Adder can predict your future...if you are willing to pay his fee. To find out how this strange soothsayer was first purchased, read The Dream as held by Mr Addison. And to read the opening chapter of Penelope, click on her."

Mr. Addison

"Up until his 65th birthday, Cornelius Elmore Addison had led a quiet life gardening the grounds of his beloved Old Town History Museum. Apart from for the late blooming of the roses, or perhaps Tibbins' gas problems, there had been very little to trouble him in the twilight of his life. But then came the night when, after nodding off at his reading desk, he paid his first visit to the most extraordinary of shops - Mack's One Stop Character Shop - a visit that consequently turned the old man into a writer of strange and fantastical tales. If you too would like to read the results of that midnight voyage, click the link below."

Penelope

"The curious cat with the green eyes and the silver coat, as she is known about the museum grounds. Gentle spirited and youthful, Penelope was discovered as a motherless kitten wandering the mist-shrouded docks near the museum. If not for Mr Addison hearing her unhappy mews while out walking in the evening fog, she may have ended up as one of those feverish wildcats known to haunt the darker parts of the city. Click on the link below to read the opening chapter of her Tale - one involving a very large and picnic-loving squirrel terrified of heights, a bad-tempered gnome with a dark past and skull tattoo, a dying kingdom hidden deep below the earth, fallen stars, submarines, dragons, pirate princes, riddles in bottles, an ancient mystery and far more adventure than one would dare poke a cat at."

Tibbens

"Ah, Tibben...Mr Addison's loyal and foul smelling companion. Irritable, gaseous and generally miserable, he has been known to deliberately break wind whenever he catches Penelope sitting in his spot by the fire. Worse still, he sometimes barks in the middle of the night for no other reason but to revenge himself on the household. One would have trouble finding a more loyal or poorly trained guard dog."

Vincent

"This charming young mouse has a very fine voise and sings in the local church-mouse choir. Come inside to hear him sing the songs as sung by some of the characters found in Addison's Tales."
